After reading 3 different books from the book study, I think this one was my favorite. It covered a lot of things that I have personally experienced in the last few years both personally and in the classroom. I also enjoyed having the different perspectives - a psychologist and a teacher and reading the stories they shared. I most definitely would recommend this book to a coworker. Thank you!

I loved this book! I think it had some great tips and strategies. It correlates well to the school I work at and what we are trying to do. I would reccommend this book study to colleagues. It works for all levels (elementary-middle-high), content areas, and specialziations. Like all the book studys I do with through TYC-I love the layout of learning-book-blog-quiz-video, the ability to work at my own pace, and the content learned.
I loved this book! It may be my favorite so far. I really enjoyed the stories weaved throughout the book from other educators and actual strategies to use. Lastly, I liked how each chapter ended with 3 things to try, 2 quotes to consider, and 1 question to answer. I will definitely be recommending this book study to my colleagues.
I loved this book. I want to share it with my colleagues so much! So, I've decided to order a few copies for the people I work with and leave them in their mailboxes with a note about my experience reading it, and instructions to come talk to me about it as they read it. I can't wait for the conversations we will have and I look forward to it moving our district towards some changes in our behavioral policies. The section about loss, grief and mourning especially resonated with me because I lost my mother just a few months ago. I am currently in the middle of that whole mess...and it helped a lot. I really enjoyed the stories about kids and, of course, a lot of them made me cry. I also liked the 3-2-1 at the end of each chapter.
Once again, I love your book studies. I like the freedom to work at my own pace as well as the variety of activities to complete. This is in my top 3 of books I have read through your courses. I keep all of my books on a shelf at school for other teachers to borrow as needed and they always ask for recommendations. This is definitely going to be one that I recommend to them.
I am a big procrastinator and I am deciding if this will be my last year in a classroom or not so I have put off taking my credits. This book was really well written and makes me think about how I treat others both in and out of the classroom. Good book and thoughtful assignments and videos!
I always love doing the book studies that TyC creates! I am able to work at my place and complete them when there is time in my schedule. The work is not overwhelming but it helps me to retain the information. Every book study I have done is relevant to me, even as a Support Professional. Thanks so much!
I would highly recommend this book to all educators. I like how the authors got right down in the mud and the muck of some of the struggles we are facing in education today. The strategies and personal narratives were very good. This book really opened my eyes to many reflections and has inspired me, which I needed halfway through my twenty-fifth year of teaching. It is kind of a coincidence, but I just finished reading Vice President J.D. Vance's book Hillbilly Elegy and it also talked about the Aces some of our kids go through. Both books really opened my eyes to situations which students are going through. Thank you
This is the 2nd book study I have completed in 2 weeks & I love these. The books are extremely relatable to our jobs as educators, no matter how many years of experience we have. I thought the authors did a great job of 'keeping it real' about lid flipping in terms that we can easily identify, relate to and help students process the why's. After reading this book, I now want to read Students These Days. I would definitely recommend this to a colleague.
I absolutely love these book studies. This is the third one I have completed in a couple weeks and it is so nice to work at my own pace. There are days I will power through reading and get so much done, but then can take a break and focus on my family and not feel like I HAVE to get a post done by that night. There isn't anything I don't like about these book studies and I look forward to completing more of them coming up. I like how real and raw the authors are in this book. I will be recommending this book to some fellow colleagues!
I would highly recommend doing a book study and I would highly recommend this book. I did the book study on Kids These Days and really enjoyed that book. I enjoyed this one even more. I liked how the authors broke it down, I liked the 3-2-1 at the end of each chapter and I loved the stories. I feel that many of the staff at our school would get alot out of this book. I will be sharing my copy! I really enjoy doing a book study. I can work at my own pace and I like how you have it set up with the quiz, blogposts and videos. Great job!!
I would definitely recommend doing any of these book studies for renewal credit. They are easy, but also make you reflect and think about your teaching and life habits. I like working at my own pace and the assignments are the perfect amount to keep you accountable, but not busy work.
I have completed numerous book studies and have learned a great deal from the ones I have done previously. However, this one I found to be very unprofessional. While there was some good content, you had to work your way past the strong liberalism. It would have been nice to address the issues without the personal bias. I will not be recommending this particular book, but will continue to recommend the many others I have completed!
I have loved this book! I borrowed the book from a colleague and also listened to it on audible. Listening to the authors read this book made even a greater impact on me than if I would have read it myself. I am passionate about seeing children as individuals, recognizing the reason behind behaviors and helping students to regulate their emotions. This book is one I will keep on my shelf and listen too again just for fun! (I now must go purchase the book for myself!)
I really loved this book, Teachers These Days, because it reaffirmed many of the teaching and life practices I already value and strive to model in my work. As I read, I found myself highlighting countless ideas and practical strategies that I’m excited to try in my library classroom, especially those focused on building relationships and creating a supportive learning environment for students. The extensive list of professional books referenced throughout the text was a goldmine; it inspired me to create a running list of titles I hope to add to our library’s professional collection so that teachers have access to fresh perspectives and resources for their own growth. One aspect I did not enjoy, however, was the frequent profanity. While I understand the authors may have intended the language to feel authentic and conversational, I found it distracting at times and somewhat unprofessional. Despite that concern, I would absolutely recommend this book study to colleagues, as the overall message and practical takeaways make it a valuable and worthwhile read.
I loved Jody and Laurie in this book! You can definitely tell that they have a sense of humor. This book had me hooked and was very engaging. Honestly, I will probably read this book again (along with the Ron Clark book study book!) There are parts in this book that I want to revisit. I will be recommending this book to my colleagues.
I liked the Ted Talks, especially the one about laughter. It got me thinking about how I can get more laughter in my class. These book studies really get you to look at yourself and how to get better and it gives you insight on how to do that. Laughter, empathy, kindness—aren’t these keys to being a successful teacher and a better person?
This is my first book study, and I really enjoyed it. I really appreciate that these book studies can be done at your own pace. I feel that is so important for busy teachers. This book was very deep at times, but I appreciate all the topics that were covered. I felt the whole book was very relevant to how teaching these days really is. I could easily relate situations I have been through, to the different stories that were told. This book was so refreshing and helped provide reassurance and reminders to me as a teacher. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the book study, and I would definitely recommend this this book study to a colleague.
This was an excellent book study. The topic of the book is at the very core of what we do as teachers. We can never be replaced by AI or robots because we form connections with students. We bring our passion for our subject, share it with our students and hopefully some of these students come to share our passion. Successful teachers take an interest in their students. They show up to their extracurricular activities and have conversations with them.
One of the things I liked about the book were the personal stories from other teachers. When we get tired, it is easy to forget why we do this job. These stories show the impact that we can have on students. The authors give practical tips for creating, sustaining, and when necessary, repairing relationships.
I would very much recommend this book study to other educators. Thank you for the course and have a great year!

I loved this book! It was filled with SO many good topics! This book could be read by anyone and they could pick up such great life tips. I really want to read the Kids These Days now, at least I think that is what it's called, because this one was so good. I loved how it talked about students won't know how to give a sincere apology if they are never apologized to. It made me think that so many of my students have parents that pbly need to apologize to them for different things but never do. Many students won't learn this at home and so we need to do this for our students and apologize. I also loved the loss, grief, and mourn section. It's always so hard to know what to say to people and this book was a great reminder that it's ok to just listen and be there, without talking. There really wasn't anything that I didn't like. I would and will definitely recommend this to other teachers!
This is my second book study from this author and I have enjoyed both of them. Her books forced me to reflect on my own viewpoints and reconsider how I view certain situations. After reading, the authors has left me striving to do better both professionally and personally. I would recommend this book study.
I really enjoyed this book study and found it to be a refreshing change of pace. What I liked most was how the content pushed me to reflect on the human side of teaching. I'd recommend this to other teachers.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was full of tips and ideas that you could use in your classroom as well as outside the classroom. I liked how it focused on connection and relationships, emphasized that teaching is about human connection first, it was easy to read and relatable it was encouraging and validating for teachers, and touched on trauma-informed teaching such as trauma, grief, or stress.
The only thing I did not like about the book was that it wasn't as focused on teachers as I expected based on the title, much of the content centers on students rather than directly supporting teachers.
Yes, I would recommend this book to a colleagues because it talked about inspiration, mindset shifts, and building empathy/connection, which is something that all of can work on in the classroom as well as outside the classroom. We can use these ideas anywhere!

This course was well organized. The course was a good mix of the book and related videos. I would recommend either this course or Kids These Days to a colleague but not both. The books seemed redundant.
Oddly enough, the timing of this course was perfect. I needed to read more on “flipping the lid.” This isn’t a new concept for me, but I felt like it was the perfect refresher. I have a few kiddos that popped into my head as I was reading and look forward to trying some of the strategies I read about. It is also a great reminder that we are doing a lot of things right. I have already shared it with my principal and will recommend it to others. As always, I love that the class is self-paced as it fits within my time constraints. I also appreciate that the books are affordable. I am looking forward to the next book study I’m doing this summer.
Overall, I found this course both challenging and highly rewarding. As a high school teacher and coach, I appreciated that the readings were intentional and directly relevant to my work. The videos paired with each section aligned well with the text readings and strengthened the overall themes being explored, this helped deepen my understanding getting those different mediums paired together with each reading. I would absolutely recommend this book study to a colleague in the future.
I really liked this book study. I originally was only reading the book until I watched the Ted Talk by Dr. Jody Carrington. Once I watched that Ted Talk, I decided to download the audio version because she had such a fun personality and listen to Dr. Carrington read it. I am glad that I did. I would definitely recommend this book study and as I already have.
Co-author Laurie MacIntosh and her husband Cody went on a ten-month giving spree. While you may not have hundreds of thousands of dollars from Ellen to give away, can you see yourself going on a giving spree? What can you give? How will you do it? List all the details!
“Perception is a powerful tool. Students will learn more from you than opening a book.” What do you hope your students are learning from you? (Your answer should not contain content-related examples such as, ‘I’m a math teacher so I hope my students are learning math from me.’) What do your students learn by watching you? What did you learn simply by observing some of your own teachers, both the good and the bad?
